History
Uppsala was in the 1200-century a port in Lake Mälaren, with the construction of the Cathedral the name Uppsala was chosen. It was in Uppsala as Carl Linnaeus lived and worked in the later part of his life. Linnaeus' summer home, Hammarbyfarm, is conserved and reflects his life and scientific achievement.
Uppsala Cathedral is an incredibly large and magnificent building which took almost 200 years to build. Another silhouette that is visible from afar is Uppsala Castle. The castle was built by Gustav Vasa, and many important events have happened here.
Viking graves in Old Uppsala, Ulva Miller and Vallo mills in northern Uppland, are examples of live open-air museum.
